Watcho

Privacy Policy

Effective September 9, 2026 Applies to the Watcho iOS app and its sign-in providers
01

Overview

Watcho is an app for cataloguing your personal watch collection, identifying watches from photos, and optionally following other collectors. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

Watcho is built and operated by an independent developer, not a company with a dedicated legal or privacy team — this policy is written in plain language to match that, but the commitments in it are real.

02

Information we collect

  • Account information. Email address, and a username you choose. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google — we never see your Google password.
  • Profile information. An optional profile photo, and whether your account is public or private.
  • Watch collection data. Photos of your watches, along with brand, model, and any details you enter (material, movement, notes, estimated value).
  • Social graph. Who you follow, who follows you, and pending follow requests.

Password authentication is handled entirely by our infrastructure provider (Supabase) — we never store or see your password in plain text.

03

How we use it

  • To run the app. Your account and watch data are used to display your collection, your profile, and your social connections.
  • To identify watches you photograph. When you use the camera-recognition feature, that photo is sent to an AI provider (see Third parties) to identify the brand and model.
  • To suggest your next watch. A summary of the styles, materials, and price tiers already in your collection — never your photos or personal details — is sent to the same AI provider to generate one suggestion.
We do not sell your information to advertisers or data brokers, and we do not use your watch photos to train any AI model.
04

Your collection's visibility

Your watch collection lives on your device by default. If you choose to let others follow you, a copy is mirrored to our servers so it can be shown to them — and exactly who that means depends on one setting:

  • Public account (default). Anyone using Watcho can view your collection and profile, whether or not they follow you.
  • Private account. Only people you've individually approved as followers can see your collection. Everyone else sees your profile exists, but not its contents.

You can switch between public and private at any time in Settings. Switching to private takes effect immediately for anyone not already an approved follower.

05

Third parties

  • Anthropic (Claude AI) — receives watch photos you submit for identification, and collection summaries for recommendations, via our own server. It does not receive your name, email, or account information.
  • Wikipedia — queried by our server to find a representative photo for a recommended watch. No personal data is sent.
  • Google — if you choose "Continue with Google," Google handles that authentication and shares your basic profile with us, per Google's own privacy policy.
06

Storage & security

Account, social, and any publicly-mirrored collection data is stored with Supabase, a hosted Postgres database provider. Access is restricted with row-level security rules, so the database itself enforces who can read what — not just the app. Watch photos are stored in Supabase Storage under the same restrictions.

The AI identification and recommendation features run through a small server component we operate on Cloudflare, which exists only to keep our AI provider credentials out of the app itself — it does not retain your photos after the request completes.

07

Your rights

  • Access & correction. You can view and edit your profile, username, and privacy setting directly in the app at any time.
  • Deletion. Email us at watcho.app.1@gmail.com to request deletion of your account and associated data. We'll confirm once it's done, typically within a few days.
  • Unfollowing / removing followers. You can unfollow anyone, or (by switching to a private account) remove access for anyone who isn't an approved follower.
08

Children's privacy

Watcho is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

09

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is handled, we'll update the effective date above. Significant changes will be surfaced in the app.
